About

I’m Vincent Anton Obriskie, a filmmaker, storyteller, and lifelong student of the connections hidden beneath the surface of things. My journey into filmmaking began in 1992, on an ordinary night that took an unexpected turn. At nineteen, I rented a VHS copy of Boyz n the Hood, settled in front of the television, and found myself drawn into a story that reached across the distance between my own life and someone else’s. Then came a familiar expression on a stranger’s face, a song in the closing scene, and an unlikely coincidence in the credits: the songwriter’s name was Stanley Vincent. My father’s name was Stanley. Mine was Vincent.I had no explanation for what followed that night, only a feeling that something had shifted. By morning, I knew I wanted to make movies. What began as an inexplicable encounter became the starting point of a lifelong pursuit—not simply to make films, but to understand how stories find us, how seemingly unrelated experiences connect, and how meaning can hide in plain sight until we learn to look for it.Over time, that way of seeing has grown beyond filmmaking. It has become a way of examining memory, questioning assumptions, and discovering the connections that help us understand who we are. Through The Unspoken Word, I continue that journey, exploring the moments that shape a life and the lessons that only become clear when we look back.

The Stories

My experiences are the stories. Filmmaking is the lens. The reader’s own life is where the story ultimately goes.
